Privacy Policy

Last updated Effective 29 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information JNK Motors collects when you use jnkmotors.lk or buy from us, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do.

We collect what we need to sell and deliver car parts: your contact details, your delivery address, your orders and payments, and the cars you save. We never see your full card number. You type your card details on PayHere's page, not ours.

We do not sell your information, show you adverts or use tracking cookies. We send texts and emails about your orders and sign-in. We send no marketing.

Our website and database run on a server in Singapore. Our emails are sent by a United States company from its servers in Japan, and our email inbox is with Google. Cloudflare protects the site from its worldwide network.

Our system decides whether to offer cash on delivery, based on the delivery history of your phone number. Card or bank transfer is always offered instead. You can ask a person to review the decision.

If you have an account, you can download your data or delete your account at jnkmotors.lk/account/privacy. A deletion waits 7 days, so you can change your mind. Order and invoice records stay for as long as tax law requires.

Questions or requests go to our privacy contact at [email protected]. We reply within one month, free of charge.

1. Who we are

J N K Motors trades as JNK Motors. We sell car spare parts in Sri Lanka through jnkmotors.lk. We decide how your personal information is used, so we are responsible for it.

In this policy, "we" and "us" mean J N K Motors trading as JNK Motors. "You" means anyone who uses our website or buys from us.

  • Registered as: a sole proprietorship registered in Sri Lanka, business registration number WJ19549
  • Address: 362, 16 Nelum Mawatha, Boralesgamuwa 10290
  • Email: [email protected]
  • Phone and WhatsApp: 077 737 0138

2. Our privacy contact

Our privacy contact deals with every question, request and complaint about your personal information. Email [email protected] with "Privacy" in the subject line, or call 077 737 0138.

We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer.

3. What this policy covers

This policy covers the personal information we collect through jnkmotors.lk, when you order from us, when you ask us to find a part, and when you contact us.

When you pay on PayHere's page, sign in on Google's page, email us (our inbox is with Google) or message us on WhatsApp, those companies also handle your information under their own privacy policies.

4. What we collect when you browse

You can look around the shop without an account and without telling us who you are.

  • Your network (IP) address and basic details about your browser and device. Cloudflare, which protects and delivers our site, and our own server need these to show you pages and to block attacks.
  • General visitor numbers that Cloudflare counts for us from its own traffic records, for example how many people viewed a page. These do not use cookies and do not tell us who you are.
  • We do not use advertising cookies, tracking tools or any other analytics service.

5. What we collect when you choose a vehicle

  • The make, model and chassis code you choose. A cookie keeps them on your device for 180 days, so the shop shows parts that fit. It holds nothing about you.
  • The cars in My Garage: make, model, chassis code, and a nickname if you give one. A car you choose on the My Garage page is saved there, and so is one you choose anywhere else once you have a basket or an account. If you are not signed in, we keep them on our server linked to your browser, and they move to your account when you sign in or create one.

6. What we collect for your basket and saved parts

  • The parts in your basket and on your saved parts list, how many, and when you added them.
  • If you are not signed in, 2 cookies keep your basket together and identify your browser, not you. We keep your basket on our server, linked to those cookies. Our cookies page lists them.

7. What we collect for your account and sign-in

You can create an account with an email address and a password, sign in with Google, or sign in with a code we text to your mobile.

  • Your email address, and your name and mobile number if you give them.
  • Your password, stored only in a scrambled form that cannot be turned back into the password.
  • If you choose "Continue with Google": your Google account number, email address and name, which Google gives us.
  • If you sign in by text message: the mobile number we send the code to, a scrambled copy of the code, and how many tries were made.
  • Your sign-ins: when each started and was last used, and scrambled versions of your browser details and network address. These let us show you where you are signed in and spot a stolen account.
  • When you place an order, or create an account with an email address and password: which version of our Terms & Conditions and Returns Policy you agreed to, which version of this Privacy Policy was live, and when.

8. What we collect when you place an order

The same applies whether you have an account or check out as a guest.

  • Your name, mobile number and email address. An email address is needed to pay by card and is optional otherwise.
  • Your delivery address, or the collection point you choose.
  • Any note you leave for us or the driver.
  • The parts, prices, delivery charge, any promo code, the total, and how you chose to pay.
  • What happens to the order: when it is dispatched, the courier and tracking number, when it is delivered or collected, and any cancellation, return or refund.
  • Your tax invoice and any credit notes.

9. What we collect when you pay

  • Card: you type your card details on PayHere's secure page, not ours. We never see or keep your full card number or security code. PayHere tells us whether the payment worked and gives us its reference numbers. It also tells us the name on the card, its last 4 digits and its expiry date, and we do not keep them.
  • Bank transfer: the reference and amount of your transfer, which our staff record against your order. If you send us a photo of your bank slip, we use it only to match your payment.
  • Cash on delivery: whether each parcel was delivered, refused or came back undelivered, filed under a scrambled form of your phone number and delivery address. Section 15 explains how we use this.
  • Refunds: the amount and the reason. If we refund you by bank transfer, also the bank account details you give us for it.

10. What we collect when you ask us to find a part

If you cannot find a part, you can ask us to find it at jnkmotors.lk/request-a-part. Our staff call you back.

  • Your name and phone number, and your email address if you give it.
  • The part you need, its part number if you have it, and how many.
  • Your vehicle and chassis number, if you give them.
  • Photos you send. Before our staff see them, we resize them and remove hidden information, such as the location a phone records in a photo.
  • What you searched for and which page you came from, so we know what you were looking for.
  • Our staff's notes about the request and how it ended.

11. What we collect when we message you or you contact us

  • We send texts and emails about your orders, deliveries, sign-in codes and password resets. We keep a copy of each: who it went to, the subject and the content.
  • If you call us, message us on WhatsApp or email us, we keep what you tell us so we can deal with it. Our email inbox is with Google (Gmail), and WhatsApp handles your messages under its own privacy policy. Section 21 says how long we keep them.

12. What we collect to keep the site and your account safe

  • A quick check that you are a person, run by Cloudflare (called Turnstile). It runs when you create an account, ask for a sign-in code by text, get your password wrong twice, or send a part request. Cloudflare receives details about your browser and device, and your network address, to make the check. It sets no cookie. Cloudflare also uses these details to improve its check, under its own Turnstile privacy notice. Usually you will not notice it.
  • Records of attempts to sign in, ask for codes, create accounts and reset passwords. Each is filed under a scrambled device number, a scrambled network address or the phone number, so we can stop password guessing and floods of codes.
  • A device cookie that identifies your browser, not you, so these limits apply to one device at a time.
  • Short-lived records that stop a double tap on a slow connection from placing the same order twice.
  • Your cash-on-delivery history (section 15).
  • Records of what our staff do: who changed an order or request, when, what changed and why.

13. Information we get from others

Sometimes we get information about you from someone else. None of it comes from public sources.

  • Google, if you sign in with Google: your Google account number, email address and name.
  • PayHere: whether your card payment worked and its reference numbers. Its message also gives the name on the card, its last 4 digits and its expiry date, which we drop before we store it.
  • Couriers: whether your parcel was delivered, refused or returned.
  • Someone ordering for you: if a friend or a garage orders a part to be delivered to you or collected by you, they give us your name, phone number and address.

We use your information only when we have a lawful reason. Here is each use and the reason for it.

Where we say "legitimate interest", we mean a fair reason of our own, which we rely on only where it does not override your interests and privacy.

  • To take, deliver and support your order, take payment, handle cancellations, returns, refunds and warranty claims, and send you messages about them: to carry out our contract with you.
  • To keep the contact details on past orders, so we can deal with a warranty claim, a refund or a dispute about them: to carry out our contract with you.
  • To run your account, sign you in, and send sign-in codes and password reset links: to carry out our contract with you.
  • To let you sign in with Google, if you choose "Continue with Google": to carry out our contract with you, because it is the way you chose to sign in. You can ask us to remove the link at any time (section 28).
  • To show parts that fit your car, and to remember your basket and saved parts: to give you the service you ask for, as part of our contract with you.
  • To answer a part request and call you back: to take the steps you asked for before you order.
  • To keep tax invoices, payment records and accounts: because the law requires it.
  • To protect the site, your account and our payments from attacks and fraud, with the human check, the limits on sign-in attempts and the sign-in records: our legitimate interest in keeping our customers, our site and our money safe.
  • To decide whether to offer cash on delivery: our legitimate interest in not losing parcels and money on orders refused at the door.
  • To keep records of what our staff do: our legitimate interest in being able to trace mistakes and misuse.
  • To keep proof of which terms and policies were live when you agreed to our terms, and of your requests to download or delete your data and how we handled them: our legitimate interest in being able to show that we treated you fairly and kept the law.
  • To fix faults on the site, and to learn which parts people look for and cannot find: our legitimate interest in running a better shop. We do not build profiles of individual customers.
  • To send marketing: only with your consent. We send none today.

15. Cash on delivery: a decision made by our system

When you choose cash on delivery at checkout (or cash when you collect), our system decides on its own whether to offer it for that order, and up to what amount. No person looks at it at that moment.

It looks at the mobile number on the order, in a scrambled form. It counts how many cash-on-delivery parcels to that number were delivered, checks whether any parcel to that number was refused or came back undelivered in the last 180 days, and adds up what is still unpaid on that number's open cash-on-delivery orders. It also looks at the order total, and at whether the order has a part we never send cash on delivery.

These are the rules it follows:

  • Up to Rs 15,000 if we have not delivered a cash-on-delivery order to that number before.
  • Up to Rs 35,000 once we have delivered 1 cash-on-delivery order to that number.
  • Up to Rs 75,000 once we have delivered 3 cash-on-delivery orders to that number and none has been refused in the last 180 days.
  • No more than Rs 100,000 unpaid at any one time, across all open cash-on-delivery orders for that number.
  • No cash on delivery for 180 days after a cash-on-delivery parcel to that number is refused, or comes back undelivered because the address was wrong or no one was available.
  • No cash on delivery for orders with a type of part we never send cash on delivery.
  • We may also limit cash on delivery to Rs 15,000 when the mobile number was verified with us in the last 72 hours.

16. What the cash-on-delivery decision means for you

It decides only how you can pay. We never refuse to sell to you because of it. Card or bank transfer is always offered instead, with no limit.

The message at checkout tells you when a part in your basket cannot go cash on delivery, or the most you can pay in cash on this order. It does not say whether your delivery history was the reason.

We do not charge you for a refused parcel. The only effect of a refusal is on cash on delivery. If you refused a parcel because it was damaged, wrong or not what you ordered, tell us, so it does not count against you.

If you think the decision is wrong, for example because a parcel was refused through our mistake or the courier's, contact our privacy contact. A member of our staff will review your history, tell you the result and the reason, and correct our records if they are wrong.

17. Who we share your information with

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising. Inside our shop, only the staff who need your details can see them.

We share your information only with the companies and people below, each for one job, and we give each only what it needs for that job. PayHere, Google and WhatsApp also handle it under their own privacy policies.

  • DigitalOcean runs our server in Singapore. It holds our database and the files you upload, so it holds all the information in this policy.
  • Cloudflare protects and delivers our site, so every visit passes through it. It also runs the human check. It also keeps our encrypted nightly backups.
  • PayHere, a Sri Lankan company, takes card payments. We give it your name, email address, phone number, address and city, the order number and the amount.
  • Hutch (Hutchison Telecommunications Lanka), a Sri Lankan mobile network, sends our text messages. It gets your mobile number and the message.
  • Resend, a United States company, sends our emails. It gets your email address and the email. It sends them from its servers in Japan and keeps its records in the United States.
  • Google, a United States company. Our email inbox is a Gmail account, so Google holds the emails you send us and our replies. If you choose "Continue with Google", Google also handles your sign-in.
  • WhatsApp (Meta), if you message us on WhatsApp. It carries your messages and photos, and handles them outside Sri Lanka.
  • The courier company or our own driver who delivers your parcel. They get your name, mobile number, delivery address, your note for the driver and, for cash on delivery, the amount to collect. Your dispatch message names the courier.
  • Our accountant, who sees order, invoice and payment records to keep our books.
  • The police, courts, tax authorities or other public bodies, when the law requires us to give them information.

18. Information that leaves Sri Lanka

Some of the companies above keep or handle your information outside Sri Lanka.

  • Singapore: our server, our database and the files you upload (DigitalOcean).
  • United States: records of the emails we send (Resend), the emails you send us and our replies (Google's Gmail), and Google sign-in if you use it (Google). Google may also keep this in its data centres in other countries.
  • Japan: our emails are sent out from Resend's servers in Tokyo.
  • Cloudflare's worldwide network: your visits and the human check pass through the Cloudflare data centre nearest to you, which may be outside Sri Lanka. Our encrypted backups are kept with Cloudflare, which does not promise to keep them in Asia.
  • WhatsApp's network (Meta): messages and photos you send us on WhatsApp.
  • Sri Lankan companies: card payments (PayHere), text messages (Hutch) and deliveries.

19. How we protect information that leaves Sri Lanka

We protect your information abroad in these ways.

  • DigitalOcean, Cloudflare and Resend work for us under written data protection terms that limit what they may do with your information.
  • Google and WhatsApp handle your information under their own terms and privacy policies. If you prefer, you can phone us instead of emailing or messaging us, and sign in without Google.
  • We have written down, for each provider, what it receives, where, and how it is protected. We review this when the rules change.
  • Our nightly backups are encrypted on our server before they go to Cloudflare, and Cloudflare does not hold the keys to open them.
  • Information travelling between your device, Cloudflare and our server is encrypted.

20. How long we keep your information

We keep information only as long as we need it for the reason we collected it, or as long as the law requires. Our systems delete or remove most of it automatically, on these timetables.

  • Attempts to sign in, ask for a code, create an account or reset a password: 30 days.
  • Sign-in codes, used or not: 24 hours after the code expires.
  • Sign-in records: 30 days after the sign-in expires. A sign-in lasts up to 30 days.
  • Password reset links: 7 days after the link expires. A link works for 30 minutes.
  • Your name, phone number, email address and chassis number on a part request: 365 days after the request is closed. The request itself (what was asked for and how it ended) stays as our record, without your details.
  • Photos sent with a part request: 90 days after the request is closed.
  • Part requests closed as spam: deleted completely 30 days after they are closed.
  • Who a text or email went to, and what it said: removed 30 days after the message was created. We keep only a note of which message was sent about which order.
  • Counters that limit how often a form can be used: 2 days.
  • Records that stop a double tap placing an order twice: 24 hours.

21. Records we keep longer, and why

Some records have to outlive the periods above.

  • Orders, invoices, credit notes, payments, refunds and bank transfer records: for as long as tax law requires us to keep them — at least five years from the sale, and longer if a tax assessment or a legal case needs them. The name, phone number, email address and delivery address on each order stay with it, so we can deal with a warranty claim, a refund or a dispute about that order. We have not yet set up their removal after that period, so today they stay until we do. We will update this policy when we have.
  • PayHere's messages about your payment, without the card's name, last 4 digits and expiry: kept with the payment records, on the same terms.
  • Your account: until you delete it. We do not close unused accounts automatically.
  • Your basket and saved parts: until you remove them or delete your account.
  • Saved cars: removing one in My Garage, or deleting your account, takes it out of use, but today it stays on file. We are changing this so it is wiped.
  • If you never sign in or create an account, your basket, saved parts and saved cars are deleted 30 days after the browser session they belong to ends. A session ends 30 days after your last visit, so this is about two months after you last came.
  • Which versions of our terms and policies were live when you agreed to our terms: kept even after you delete your account, as our proof. These records hold no contact details.
  • Your requests to download or delete your data: kept as proof that we handled them.
  • A copy of your data you asked to download: today it stays on our server, even after you delete your data. We are changing this so each copy is deleted 30 days after it is ready.
  • Messages you send us by email or WhatsApp, and anything you send with them, such as a photo of a bank slip: kept while we deal with your question, order or refund. If they are part of a payment or refund, we keep them with that order's records.
  • Bank account details you give us for a refund: deleted once the refund is paid. The refund record keeps only the amount and the reason.
  • Cash-on-delivery history: for each cash-on-delivery order, a scrambled form of the phone number and delivery address, the order it belongs to, its value, and whether it was delivered, refused or came back. A refused or undelivered parcel counts against cash on delivery for 180 days. Each record is deleted 2 years after it was made.
  • Records of what our staff do: kept for as long as we keep the order records they relate to, because they are our proof of who did what. They can mention your name or your order.
  • Nightly backups of our database and of uploaded files, such as photos: up to 30 days. Something deleted can stay in a backup for up to 30 days more. We open backups only to restore our systems or to check that they can be restored.
  • Before each update to our database, we also keep a copy of it on our server, for 30 days at most.

22. What you can ask us to do

You can ask us to do any of these, free of charge:

  • Give you a copy of your information.
  • Correct information that is wrong or incomplete.
  • Delete your information, with the exceptions in section 25.
  • Stop using your information where we rely on your consent.
  • Stop using your information where we rely on our legitimate interests.
  • Have a person review the cash-on-delivery decision (section 16).
  • Take a complaint to the Data Protection Authority (section 30).

23. Getting a copy of your information

If you have an account, sign in and go to Your account, then Your data (jnkmotors.lk/account/privacy), and choose Request a copy. It is usually ready within a few minutes. You download it from the same page. Today we do not delete this copy automatically, even if you later delete your data. We are changing this so it is deleted 30 days after it is ready.

The file holds your account details, saved cars, saved parts, basket, what you agreed to and when, the times you signed in, and your part requests.

Your orders and invoices are on your orders page (jnkmotors.lk/account/orders), where you can download each invoice.

If you want anything else we hold, such as the photos you sent with a part request, contact our privacy contact.

24. Deleting your data

If you have an account, sign in and go to Your data (jnkmotors.lk/account/privacy), and choose Delete my data. To protect you, we ask you to sign in again and type DELETE.

Your deletion then waits 7 days. During that time the page shows the date it will happen and a button to cancel it. Signing in does not cancel it; only the button does. After the 7 days it cannot be undone.

When the 7 days are up, we:

  • sign you out everywhere and close your account
  • remove your name, email address and mobile number from your account
  • delete your basket and saved parts
  • take your saved cars out of use
  • remove your name, phone number, email address, chassis number and our staff notes from your part requests, and delete your photos
  • remove your mobile number or email address, and what the message said, from our copies of the texts and emails we sent you

25. What deleting your data does not remove

Deleting your data removes your details from your account and closes it. It does not wipe every record, for these reasons:

  • Orders, invoices, payments and refunds stay, because tax law requires us to keep our sales records. The name, phone number, email address and delivery address on each order stay with it, so we can deal with a warranty claim, a refund or a dispute about that order.
  • Your part requests stay as a record of what was asked for and how it ended, without your details.
  • The record of what you agreed to stays as our proof. It holds no contact details.
  • Your cash-on-delivery history stays, linked to your orders.
  • Records of what our staff did stay, and may mention your name or your order.
  • Copies in our nightly backups, and the copy of our database taken before each update, last up to 30 days more.
  • Today, any copy of your data you asked to download stays on our server. We are changing this so it is deleted as well.
  • Today, saved cars are taken out of use but not yet wiped. Your Google account number and the email address Google gave us (if you used Google sign-in), and the scrambled form of your password, also stay on file. We are changing this so they are wiped as well.
  • Emails and WhatsApp messages you sent us are not touched by the Your data page. Ask our privacy contact if you want them deleted too.

26. If you ordered as a guest

The Your data page works only when you are signed in to an account. If you ordered without an account, contact our privacy contact for a copy of your information or to have it deleted.

Before we act, we will ask for your order number and check that you are the person on the order, for example by calling the mobile number on it.

27. Correcting your information

You can add and remove saved cars in My Garage, and remove saved parts, yourself.

To correct your name, email address or mobile number, or a detail on an order, contact our privacy contact.

A tax invoice cannot be changed once it is issued. If yours has a mistake, tell us and we will record the correction.

Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time by contacting our privacy contact. Withdrawing does not affect what we did before you withdrew.

If you no longer want your account linked to Google, contact us and we will remove the link. First make sure you can still sign in another way, with your email address and a password, or with a code sent to your mobile.

Where we use your information for our legitimate interests, you can ask us to stop. We will stop unless the law allows us to continue, for example because a law requires us to keep the record, or to prevent or investigate a crime such as fraud. We will tell you what we decided and why, and that you can take it to the Data Protection Authority.

The cash-on-delivery check is needed for us to offer cash on delivery at all. If you object to it, you can still pay by card or bank transfer.

29. How we handle your requests

Send your request to our privacy contact at [email protected] or 077 737 0138, or use the Your data page.

Before we act, we may ask for information to confirm who you are, so that nobody else can get or delete your information. Someone else can ask for you if you authorise them in writing. A parent or guardian can ask for a child.

We reply within one month of receiving your request. If we need longer, up to 2 more months, we tell you why before the first month ends.

There is no charge.

If we cannot do what you ask, for example because tax law requires us to keep a record, we tell you why, and that you can take the matter to the Data Protection Authority.

30. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please tell our privacy contact first. We will try to put it right.

You can also contact the Data Protection Authority of Sri Lanka:

  • Address: First Floor, Block 5, BMICH, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07
  • Email: [email protected]
  • Phone: +94 11 269 7241

31. Do you have to give us your information?

Giving us information is your choice, and you can browse without telling us who you are. But we need some details to sell to you, and once you buy, tax law requires us to keep the details on your invoice.

  • To place an order: your name and mobile number, and a delivery address unless you collect. Without them we cannot take or deliver your order.
  • To pay by card: an email address and an address as well, because PayHere requires them, even if you collect.
  • For cash on delivery and bank transfer, an email address is optional. Without one, you will not get emails about your order.
  • To create an account: an email address and a password, a Google account, or a mobile number for sign-in codes. Your name and mobile number are optional.
  • For a part request: your name, your phone number and the part you need, so we can call you back. Everything else is optional, but it helps us find the right part.

32. How we keep your information safe

No website can be made completely safe, but we take the steps below. Please keep your password and sign-in codes to yourself, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.

  • Your password is scrambled with a strong one-way method. Sign-in codes, and the cookie that keeps you signed in, are stored only in scrambled form.
  • Network addresses and device numbers are stored only in scrambled form, using a secret key kept outside our database.
  • Our database lets the website see only one customer's records at a time.
  • Our staff system can be reached only through Cloudflare's access control, which checks each person against our list of staff. Only staff who need your details can see them, and every change they make is recorded in a log that our staff system cannot change, and that would show if anyone tampered with it.
  • Your full card number and security code never reach our servers.
  • Photos are stripped of hidden information before staff see them.
  • Our nightly backups are encrypted. The database backup is locked with a key that is not kept on our server. Backups of uploaded files, such as invoices and photos, are locked with a separate password.
  • Every connection to our site is encrypted.
  • Your account page shows where you are signed in, and lets you sign out everywhere at once.

33. Cookies

We use only the cookies the site needs to work: to keep you signed in, keep your basket, remember the vehicle you chose, protect sign-in, and finish a Google sign-in. We use no advertising or tracking cookies, so we do not ask you to accept cookies. The full list, with how long each lasts, is at jnkmotors.lk/cookies.

Cloudflare, which protects this site, may set its own short-lived security cookies to tell people from automated traffic. When you pay on PayHere's page, PayHere may set its own cookies there.

34. If something goes wrong

If your information is lost, stolen, changed or seen by someone who should not see it, we will act at once to stop it and limit the harm.

We will tell the Data Protection Authority, and we aim to do so within 72 hours of finding out. If there is a high risk to you, we will also tell you directly, with what happened and what you should do.

35. Children

Our shop is for adults. You must be 18 or over to create an account or place an order.

We do not knowingly collect information about children under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and think your child has given us information, contact our privacy contact. We will delete it, keeping only what the law requires us to keep.

36. Marketing

We do not send marketing messages today.

If we start, we will send them only if you have said yes. We will ask separately from placing an order or creating an account, and you will never have to say yes to buy from us. Every marketing message will say who it is from and how to stop, and stopping will be free.

Messages about your orders, deliveries and sign-in are not marketing. We send them as part of our service.

37. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The effective date at the top changes with each new version.

We record which version was live when you placed an order, or created an account with an email address and password.

Before we use your information for a new purpose, or make another important change, we will tell you. We will say so on this page and, where the change affects you and we have your contact details, by email or text.

38. Language

This policy is written in English. If we publish it in Sinhala or Tamil and a version differs from the English, you may rely on whichever is more favourable to you.
